Not having access to DX group membership records in times of dire need has always frustrated the life out of me. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure MOST radio ops have had times in their hobby life when they’ve had a QSO and wanted desperately to clarify a unit number, seek an operator’s name and/or gain QSL info but couldn’t because they couldn’t get access to the info.

Of course it helps if you work a member of the same group as you and can therefore turn to your respective group’s callbook for answers but let’s face it, not everyone is a member of the same group and has access to the same source of info. And unless you’ve got a bookshelf in the shack stacked ceiling high with directories from all the radio groups of the world then chances are you experience, or have experienced, the same dilemma as your DX brothers and sisters.

As most groups make directories available to members only, some DXers are on record for having gone to the extent of actually paying membership money to join a group — just so they could get their hands on a copy of the group’s directory. Drastic lengths, I know but desperate men do desperate things — especially when it involves their favourite leisure pursuit!

Thanks to the efforts of a bunch of dedicated Freebanders, however, this sorry predicament is a thing of the past with an extraordinary website titled ‘Callbook 27’ MHz now containing the membership directories of most of the Freeband and Citizens Band Radio groups in the world.

Located at http://callbook.free.fr/ this sensational on-line resource for 27 MHz enthusiasts houses no less than 102 different directories for 11m and CB radio clubs respectively. From giants of the Freeband world such as Alfa Tango and Sugar Delta to cb minnows Bravo Foxtrot and Alfa Mike, ‘Callbook 27 MHz’ contains membership info from groups, clubs and organisations scattered all over the globe.

If you have any questions regarding the information available on this website please email the site’s supervisor at cb27@callbook.c0m.st

In the meanwhile, drop by and check it out and download some of the files!
